There is a Space
It seems there was space
and you showed up!

How unsure we are sometimes
to fill a space, to take the step to
enter something unfamiliar, even unknown
apologizing all the time to be sure
that we are not taking up too much
room, using the air, filling the space
that someone else might need or want.
Well, not the poppies blooming in the pasture
or the clouds passing by today or
the sage that sprouts up everywhere
and certainly not the magpies that
fill the space with both beauty and noise.
The prairie dogs don’t mind filling the
space and will even dig more. No,
they all just show up and we are glad
they did and would miss them if they
did not come some spring day. Maybe
the space is saved for us and the world
would not be the same if we left it
empty and quiet.
