we are rationing hope,
supplies having gone far too short
the run on the storehouses
has left the shelves bare
of every type of hope.
there used to be plenty to go round
but now there’s not much of any kind
a few pockets here and there
but the crop is mostly exhausted
so we encourage everyone
to share whatever hope remains
to stretch out the supply
knowing that hope grows best
when shared.
