Weathered

August 12, 2026

—-after Susan Campbell

The cedar board on the old fence

had weathered the winds

and the rains, the sun, snow

and sleet of this place.

Yet it held. Stayed upright.

Stayed in service.

Helped by other boards nearby

and a tending now and then

that I could offer.  It held.

Pitted and strafed, scratched

and scraped, scarred into beauty.
