The Lord’s Lament

June 26, 2016

While I do not know who or what God is, I am pretty certain that if there is a God they would be lamenting much of what they see in their creation; at least the human part.  Here is what I imagine the Lord’s lament might be like:

O people who claim the Lord as your God,

why have you forsaken me?

why have you built walls

instead of tables?

why have you counted the chairs

at your tables of plenty?

why have you remained on the sidelines

while others  are dancing?

why have your insisted on ripping out the seams

while others  are piecing a living quilt?

why do you only mutter excuses

to those who seek solutions?

why have you closed your doors

to the stranger?

why have you quit seeking

to settle for hollow platitudes?

why do you reject

the sacrifice I offered?

why have you caged

the doves of peace?

You have become like chaff

in the wind

like dust on the sandal

in need of rain.
