into night’s unknown
my little girl
rides beside me
sun is setting
the night overtaking us
car lights come
toward us
in an unseeable world
we go on
mile after mile
she’s staring into an
unknown darkness
with only our small
headlights
opening the path
she reaches her hand and
puts it into mine.
