class=\"P1\"><span>Lenten Process<\/span><\/p><p class=\"Normal\"><span class=\"T2\">A description of the chancel piece constructed during Lent, 2013<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P3\"><span>Lent is a time to prepare for both a tragedy of<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>the<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>death of old ways and the joyful celebration of new beginnings. <\/span>&nbsp;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>It is a period in<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>the<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>Christian<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>spiritual calendar that brings us close to pain, agony and suffering. <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>This period is one with which we are uncomfortable and often try to avoid. <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>However, we need to touch those times as well and find a way to understand the processes that cause us and others pain. <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>If we do not open ourselves to the process of crucifixion, how will we ever really experience the<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>full<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>joy of resurrection?<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P4\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P5\">&nbsp;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>Here are some questions that cause me to propose this process piece:<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P6\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P7\"><span>1. <\/span>&nbsp;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>What does it mean to construct our own personal place of crucifixion?<\/span>&nbsp;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>Why do we participate in this? <\/span>&nbsp;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>Why did the crowds welcome Jesus, crown him as a hero and then turn on him? <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>What do we see as a savior and then find it is not what we wanted after all? <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>We are part of the crowds.<\/span>&nbsp;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>How do we participate in the crucifixion?<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P8\"><span>2. <\/span>&nbsp;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>Who or what helps us<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>create our Golgothas today<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>?<\/span>&nbsp;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>What is the meaning of a place of crucifixion and what meaning is there in resurrection?<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P9\"><span>3. <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>What are the pieces of our cross that we put into place?<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P10\"><span>4. <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>What old ways were killed by the death of Christ? <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>What new ways were opened?<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P11\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P12\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P13\"><span>There are three key parts to this process:<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P14\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P15\"><span class=\"T16\">Building the Crucifixion<\/span><span>: <\/span>&nbsp;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>Construction too place each week<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>of Lent<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>by<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>piecing<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>together the<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>parts of each section.<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>The process<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>began<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>with a bare stage with only a ladder<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>and the base that included the Verbs of Lent. <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>This ladder also held the cloth that<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>would<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>eventually drape the piece; i.e., a<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>sign of ultimate destruction in clear view from the beginning. <\/span>&nbsp;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P17\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P18\"><span class=\"T19\">False triumph<\/span><span>: <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>On Palm Sunday, the piece was draped very formally in gold and fronds. <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>During the final choral number, a congregant came to the front and removed the bouquet of flowers from the center. <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>Other congregants came forward and place a bowl, a pitcher and a towel. <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>Finally, two congregants came from the side and draped one section a dark fabric and the service ended.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P20\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P21\"><span class=\"T22\">Celebration of the Resurrection of New Life<\/span><span>: <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>On Easter morning, the entire installation was draped in many colors and included strings of<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>chranes folded by the children of RMC. <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>Easter has arrived. <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>Resurrection has taken place. <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>We can move forward with new life.<\/span><\/p><p
