class=\"P2\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P3\"><span>One<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P4\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P5\"><span>it might have been a day like today;<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P6\"><span>the family gathered save one<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P7\"><span>who never returned from that<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P8\"><span>great war to end all wars.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P9\"><span>-the apple of his mother\u2019s eye<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P10\"><span>-the hope of his father<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P11\"><span>-the progenitor to be<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P12\"><span>had fallen,<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P13\"><span>and so they<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>came together<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P14\"><span>on the west side<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>of their church life<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P15\"><span>to plant<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>a tree in a hole dug<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>by hand<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P16\"><span>for<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>a small<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>spare<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>sapling<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P17\"><span>gathered from up the hill<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P18\"><span>brought down<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P19\"><span>to<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>shade the sunny windows<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P20\"><span>in the afternoons.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P21\"><span>they were hoping to<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P22\"><span>see just a little of him<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>each day<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P23\"><span>and so they<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>planted that tree of hope<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P24\"><span>with sadness and tears<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P25\"><span>determined to have<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>William<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P26\"><span>with them<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>again.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P27\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P28\"><span>Two<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P29\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P30\"><span>and the tree did grow<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P31\"><span>and it provided<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>a comfort<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P32\"><span>to a family grieving.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P33\"><span>in time,<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>another<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>son<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>was<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P34\"><span>born<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>to another family<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P35\"><span>bringing joy to new parents<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P36\"><span>who had hope<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>as well;<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P37\"><span>and this young boy<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P38\"><span>grew to be a man<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P39\"><span>handsome<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>in face and spirit.<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P40\"><span>and as still a young man<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P41\"><span>he went off to fight<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>in yet<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>another<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>war,<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P42\"><span>leaving his family with worry<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P43\"><span>but with pride,<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P44\"><span>and the tree kept growing<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P45\"><span>and cooling the stone<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>wall<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>in summer<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P46\"><span>and providing<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>not so much joy<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P47\"><span>as<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>strength and determination,<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P48\"><span>a will to persevere.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P49\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P50\"><span>Three<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P51\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P52\"><span>the young man returned from<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>war<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P53\"><span>and lived among us<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P54\"><span>with wife and <\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>children<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>around him.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P55\"><span>and he hoped that there would<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P56\"><span>never be another war and<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P57\"><span>he sought ways to assure that hope;<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P58\"><span>with his wit and spirit<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>strong,<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P59\"><span>he stood in the midst of us<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P60\"><span>providing whatever was needed<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P61\"><span>and being present each day<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P62\"><span>or time he was called on<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P63\"><span>just like the tree next to the<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P64\"><span>western wall.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P65\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P66\"><span>Four<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P67\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P68\"><span>over the decades of life,<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P69\"><span>the tree<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>grew<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>large<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P70\"><span>just<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>as the young man<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>grew<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P71\"><span>taller<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>in his living.<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P72\"><span>but,<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>as in all things,<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P73\"><span>life moves<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>forward<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P74\"><span>and the tree\u2019s space<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>was needed;<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P75\"><span>and so it was cut down,<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P76\"><span>but not<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>before someone<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>observed<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P77\"><span>that the<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>tree had<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>been<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>there<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P78\"><span>in honor<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>of a man cut short<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P79\"><span>and<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>it<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>should live on.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P80\"><span>so,<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>in<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>a<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>pause<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>and<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P81\"><span>a moment of reflection,<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P82\"><span>it<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>was discovered<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P83\"><span>that over the years<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P84\"><span>with age and challenges,<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P85\"><span>the tree had grown<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P86\"><span>not stronger<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P87\"><span>but more beautiful<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>of spirit and grain<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P88\"><span>and so<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>it had<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>prepared<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>itself<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P89\"><span>for<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>a<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>new life<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P90\"><span>in a new form.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P91\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P92\"><span>Five<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P93\">&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P94\"><span>and it was also<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>true<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P95\"><span>that over the decades<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>of living<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P96\"><span>the man filled a space<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P97\"><span>in everyone\u2019s heart<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P98\"><span>and we treasured<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>him<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p class=\"P99\"><span>and he<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>made<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>the rest of us<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>grow<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P100\"><span>along with him.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P101\"><span>but there<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>came a time<\/span><\/p><p class=\"P102\"><span>when he needed to lie<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<span>down<\/span>&#x200b;&#x200b;&nbsp;<\/p><p
