Awake

October 13, 2017

awake, awake the soul

from slumbered dreams

and ideals deferred

awake from blurred visions

and delayed hopes

come alive again and rise up

awake, awake the heart

from fears unfounded

and loves unsought

awake from the embrace

of cozy comforts

and easy excuses

to begin again

awake, awake the eyes

from night’s darkness

and blindness imposed

awake from the unconscious

and depths unknown

to see again and know

the rising light

awake, awake the arms

spreading like the wings

of the cardinal singing

on the backfence ready

to take flight unbound

by fences for you are

not a child of conformity

but a paradigm of possibility.
